Our Story...
Sally Kaplan is so in love with the world she's created in her hit comic book Cyclone, she lets it seduce her away from her real life. Set in the glitzy, seedy, sexy Coney Island of the Roaring 20's, her heroines fight the bad guys and always save the day. But when tragedy strikes in the real world, Sally must find a way to rescue herself. For all the little girls who dreamed of being a hero and for every woman who IS… Dare to take the ride!
The action of the play takes place in and around Brooklyn, 1998-2002, as well as in Coney Island in the late 1920's.
Running time: 90 minutes
CYCLONE is performed without an intermission
One of the most memorable entries at this year's festival
This NYMF musical asks us to watch not only a comic book serial (about a mysterious super woman who protects the just-built Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island) but also the modern-day cartoonist creating it.
The wit in the lyric writing really pops
Just because summer is officially behind us doesn't mean we have to wait until next year for that season's usual crop of superhero blockbusters. In Cyclone (and the Pig-Faced Lady), presented by New Perspectives Theatre Company, you don't get to see the heroes shoot lasers from their eyes or employ a stock of fancy gadgets.
